Hornets overpower Gothic Knights

DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State women's basketball team earned an 88-48 win over the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University at Memorial Hall on Monday.

With four Hornets recording double-digit point performances, Delaware State was led by senior guard Alexis Moragne who tallied a team-best 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field including a pair of three-pointers.

Sydney Watkins and Jessica Martino finished with 13 points each. Watkins drained a game-high three shots from behind the three-point line while Martino shot 5-of-10 from the field and collected three points from the charity stripe.

Tyshonne Tollie tallied a double-double by way of 12 points and game-best 13 rebounds, nine of which gave Delaware State a second chance on offense.

The Hornets offensive outburst was highlighted by a 19-2 run in the fourth quarter that spanned 7:23 of game play. Tollie scored eight of her 12 points during that run while freshman guard Deyonce Thompson contributed to the run with two three-point shots.

Delaware State locked down defensively during that same run holding New Jersey City to a 1-for-7 shooting and forced the Gothic Knights to miss the first six shots of the final frame of action.

Tonight's win mark's the first time the Hornets eclipsed the 80-point mark for the first time since the 2019-20 season when Delaware State defeated St. Peter's University 89-66 back on December 7, 2019.

Delaware State will begin a three-game away stand starting Saturday, November 26 at Loyola University Maryland. Tipoff from the Reitz Arena is currently scheduled for 2 p.m.
