DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State women's basketball team earned a 66-36 win over the Wildcats of Wilmington University at Memorial Hall on Tuesday.

Naomi Gonzalez opened the scoring with a layup for the Hornets followed by a Daja Claiborne three-pointer that gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead early.

Delaware State responded with a 16-5 run throughout the first quarter for an 18-8 lead after the first frame of action. The Hornets' run was led by senior guard
Denijsha Wilson who tallied six points to put the lead back in Delaware State's favor, a lead that the Hornets did not concede for the remainder of the game.

Wilson finished her night with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. She also grabbed four steals and three rebounds.

Freshman guard
Savannah Brooks also notched a double-digit point performance finishing with 15 after shooting 6-16 from the field including a pair of three-pointers.

With 13 rebounds in the win, Tyshonne Tollie gave Delaware State nine second-chance opportunities and hauled in four defensive boards.

Defensively, the Hornets forced the Wildcats to commit 28 turnovers resulting in 20 steals with Gonzalez coming away with a team-best five. Delaware State only allowed Wilmington to record one quarter of double-digit scoring which did not occur until the fourth quarter.

Tonight's victory also marks the first-career win for head coach
E.C. Hill.

Delaware State will return to action on Monday, November 21 for an evening contest with New Jersey City University. Tipoff is currently scheduled for 6 p.m.
