Hornets extend win streak over Bears

DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State women's volleyball team extended both its season win-streak as well as its overall matchup streak over the Bears of Morgan State University with a 3-0 win in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition at Memorial Hall on Friday.
 
Delaware State was led offensively by the outside hitting duo of Karen Cordero and Valeria Otero as well as middle blocker Alondra Maldonado.
 
Cordero recorded a game-high 13 points behind a career-high six service aces and seven kills. Maldonado and Otero each tallied a match-best nine kills with Maldonado notching a double-digit point night (10) by way of two assisted blocks.
 
Setters Malgorzata Andersohn (21) and Alayna Lacy (13) combined for 34 of the team's 39 total assists. Lacy tied her season-best in service aces with three in the win.
 
As a team, the Hornets recorded a .341% hitting percentage.
 
Defensively, Kelsie Dawson and Sydney Lewis each recorded a block assist. Lewis tallied four kills on five total attempts for an .800% hitting percentage on the night.
 
Delaware State held Morgan State to a team hitting percentage of .176%, only conceding 26 kills on 74 total attack attempts.
 
With tonight's win, the Hornets pick up their fourth straight shutout win to improve to 15-4 overall with a 5-1 mark in MEAC action. As for the series matchup between Delaware State and Morgan State, the Hornets notched their seventh-straight win over the Bears with six coming by 3-0 wins. Delaware State have now claimed 18 consecutive sets over Morgan State.
 
The Hornets return to MEAC competition this Sunday in Baltimore, Maryland against the Eagles of Coppin State University. First serve from Coppin State's Physical Education Arena is currently scheduled for 3 p.m.
