Dover, Del. (Sep. 2, 2021) --- The Delaware State volleyball team looks to continue its early season success this weekend at the St. Francis Red Flash Invitational in Loreto, Pa. The Hornets will face Georgetown in their tournament opener on Fri. at 4:00 p.m.
DSU is off to the program's best start in more than 30 years, opening the season with three shutout wins at the Hornet Invitational last weekend, defeating St. Peter's, Bucknell and St. Francis Brooklyn by 3-0 scores.
St. Peter's will also compete in this weekend's Red Flash Invitational.
Delaware State is the only Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team without a loss after the first week of the 2021 regular season.
The Hornets are also off to a good start statistically so far this year, topping the MEAC in hitting percentage (.336), assists (16.22 per set) and kills (17.3 ps).
Delaware State's
Adriana Rodriguez and
Alondra Maldonado are 1-2 in the league in hitting percentage at .613 and .408, respectively. Rodriguez has 21 kills and just two errors in 31 attempts in the three matches. She's also the Hornets' leader with nine blocks.
Maldonado, the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, is also second in the conference in kills at 4.11 per set.
DSU's
Kristi Gomez is tied for second in the league in service aces at 0.78 per set.
