COLONIALS COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP OF HORNETS

Arlington, Va. (Mar. 28, 2021) --- Steve DiTomaso and Steve Barmakian drove in three runs each to lead George Washington to an 8-2 victory over Delaware State at Barcroft Park today. The Colonials swept the three-game series to improve to 9-7 this season, while the Hornets fell to 4-10.
Trey Paige and Krew Bouldin led Delaware State with two hits each, while Cole Garey and Brady Daniels knocked in runs for the Hornets.
DSU opened the scoring with a two-out run in the top of the first inning. Paige doubled down the right field line and scored the game's first run when Cole Carey followed with a single up the middle.  
George Washington wasted little time getting the run back. DiTomaso singled in Cade Fergus, who singled to lead off the inning, to tie the score at 1-1.
Delaware State starter Jordan Haddaway avoided further damage in the inning by getting the final two outs on a double play.
The Colonials took the lead for the first time in the game with two runs in the bottom of the third. DiTomaso tripled in his second run of the game and scored the second run of the inning on a ground out by Barmakian to give GW a 3-1 lead.
The Colonial tacked on four more runs in the fourth to open up a 7-1 lead. Barmakian's two-run sinlge was the big hit in the inning.
The Hornets trailed 8-1 before closing out the scoring with a run in the ninth on a two-out pinch hit single by Brady Daniels.
Haddaway (0-2) took the loss for the Hornets. He threw 3.1 innings, seven hits and six runs.
Delaware State returns to MEAC North play next weekend, visiting Norfolk State for a four-game series.
