LADY HORNETS COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT IN HEART BREAKING FASHION

The Delaware State Lady Hornets fall to the Coppin State Eagles 57-55 on Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Hall Gymnasium. The Lady Hornets drop to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

Coppin State forward Jalynda Stalley hits the first free throw at the line but misses the second with 2.1 seconds left in the game. The Lady Hornets grab the defensive rebound but are unable to get a shot off before the time expires.

DSU's guard Janasia Law passes the ball to Sharajah Collins at the left corner, Collins rises for three, but gets her shot blocked by Eagles' guard Aliyah Lawson with :3.00 seconds left. Stalley grabs the defensive rebound and is fouled by DSU guard Lyric Turner.

Lyric Turner hits a difficult step-back three-pointer, from the left wing with :23 seconds remaining. Turner's triple cuts the deficit to just one point with the score at 56-55.  The Lady Hornets defense forces a five second violation on the ensuing inbound.

Coppin State' Alexandria Hamilton misses a three-pointer, but Stalley grabs the offensive rebound and finishes with a layup, giving the Eagles a 56-52 advantage with :29 seconds left.

Eagles guard Aliyah Lawson blows by the Lady Hornets defense to score a layup, putting Coppin State in front by two points with 1:16 remaining in the game.

The Lady Hornets trailed Coppin State by seven heading into the fourth quarter. However, they use a 13-2 run, which Daije Harris caps of with a three-pointer, to give DSU a 52-48 lead with 4:22 left in the game.

Delaware State is outscored by Coppin State 22-9 in the third quarter, and trail 46-39 going into the fourth quarter.

In the second quarter,  the Lady Hornets went on a 13-0 highlighted by a Fastbreak layup from Miajah Bullock, after a steal and assist by Kiana Coomber. The basket gave DSU an 11-point lead with 6:13 remaining in the first half, their largest lead of the game.

Delaware State shot 22-of-62 (35.5%) from the field and just 4-of-20 (20.0%) on three-point attempts. They shot 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line.

DeMaurea Moore led DSU with 13 points, she grabbed six rebounds as well.

Lyric Turner was the only other Lady Hornet' in double figures, she tallied 12 points, four rebounds and one steal.

Kiana Coomber had a game high 14 rebounds, she also added four points, three assist, two blocks and two steals.

1. The Lady Hornets were outscored 18-9 in second chance points.
2. DSU outscored Coppin State 19-0 in bench points
3. Coppin State with a slight 30-26 advantage in points in the paint.

Stingers
DSU guard/forward Shannon Dozier appeared in her first career game with the Lady Hornets, as she returns from an injury suffered before the season.
