Washington D.C. (Feb. 12) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets lose to the Howard Bison 66-57 on Friday evening at the Burr Gymansium. The Lady Hornets record drops to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

DSU guard Daije Harris scores nine of the first ten points for the Lady Hornets. After nailing two free throws to start the game, two possessions later she drains a three-pointer off a Janasia Law assist with 8:23 left in the first quarter. Two minutes later she converts on a layup giving DSU an 8-5 advantage. Harris makes another two free throws after a 5-0 run by Howard to tie the game at 10 with 4:29 remaining.  Harris finishes the game with 12 points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Other Lady Hornets start to get in on the action, as Kiana Coomber finds Janasia Law for a jumper, to retake a 12-10 lead. After a basket from the Bison to tie the game up, the Lady Hornets close out the quarter on a 7-2 run. Delaware State's flurry was highlighted by a three-pointer from Shannon Dozier. DSU's forward Melissa Sam also hits a jumper with just five seconds remaining on the game clock. Sam's basket gives DSU a 19-14 lead heading into the second quarter.

Coomber stretches the DSU lead to seven following a nice dish from her teammate Sharajah Collins for the layup. The lead fluctuates between seven and four points for much of the second quarter. After two free throws from the Bison to cut deficit to four, Coomber responds with a three-pointer to raise the lead back to seven with 2:58 left in the first half.  One minute later Howard cuts the deficit to four again, and once again Kiana Coomber hits a three-pointer to bring the lead back to seven, at 33-26. 

Coomber finishes the game with team highs in points (13) and rebounds (9), she also adds three assists and one steal.

Howard forward Anzhane Hutton hits a jumper, just before the half ends though, to cut the led to five points.

The Bison go on a 7-4 run, tying the game at 37 with 6:23 left in the third. Howard takes a 46-40 lead after a layup from their forward Krislyn Marsh at the 4:25 mark. Marsh finishes the contest with a game high 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Hornets rally, as they end the quarter on a 9-3 run, doing most of their work by attacking the basket and getting rewarded with free throws. Kiana Coomber makes one of two free throws, tying the game at 49 heading into the fourth quarter. There were five lead changes and three ties in the third quarter alone.

Sharajah Collins ties the game at 55 midway through the fourth quarter, after hitting a timely jumper. However, Howard scores the next nine points to pull away late in the game for good.

Delaware State made 21-of-67 field goals (31.3%), they shot 4-of-19 (21.1%) on their three-point attempts. They made 11-of-15 free throws (73.3%).

2. Delaware State shoots just 23.5% in the fourth quarter.
3. Howard shoots 46.7% from the field in the second half.
