Dover, Del. (Feb. 28, 2021) --- Anthony Tarke scored a game-high 31 points on perfect shooting from the field to lead Coppin State to a wire-to-wire 94-74 MEAC North victory over Delaware State in Memorial Hall today. Tarke was 11-for-11 from the field, including three three-point shots, and six-of-nine at the free throw line. He also led all players with eight assists in the game.
The performance by Tarke overshadowed a career-high effort by Delaware State's
Dominik Fragala (jr.), who topped the Hornets with 28 points, second best by a DSU player this season. Fragala was 10-for-18 from the field, including five three-point field goals on nine attempts.
After being held to two points on one-for-four shooting from the field in the first half, Fragala exploded for 26 points after halftime. He was nine-for-14 from the field, including five three-pointers on six attempts in the final 20 minutes. His second half point total was the most by a Hornet in a half since Amere also scored 26 vs. Coppin State in the 2014-15 season.
Myles Carter added 14 points and a team-high six rebounds, while
D'Marco Baucum came off the bench to chip in 13 points for the Hornets.
The Eagles scored the first six points of the game, and opened up a 16-4 lead on a three-pointer by Tarke at the 15:06 mark of the first half.
Coppin State stretched the lead to 37-17 on two free throws by Tarke with 4:44 to go before halftime.
The Eagles led 48-24 at the break and held their biggest advantage, 63-33, after a three-point play by by Dejuan Clayton at the 15:19 mark of the second half.
Delaware State could get no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
Coppin State shot 56.6% for the game, connecting on 35 of 63 shots from the field, including 10 of 28 from three-point range (35.7%).
The Hornets were 26 for 68 from the floor overall and seven of 29 from beyond the arc (24.1%).
The teams were even in rebounding at 39 each.
Coppin State swept four games from the Hornets this season to stand at 9-12 overall and 8-4 in the MEAC. Â Delaware State is 2-15 and 0-10.
The Hornets are expected to make up at least two games that were postponed earlier in the season. The dates and times for those games will be announced soon.
