HORNETS VISIT DIVISION LEADING SPARTANS WED. IN RESCHEDULED CONTEST

Delaware State ivisits MEAC North leading Norfolk State in a game that was originally scheduled for Jan. 31. The Hornets are looking for their second win in a row. DSU is coming off a 75-58 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) last Sunday. Zach Kent led four Delaware State double-figure scorers with a career-high 19 points in the contest.  Kent, of Magnolia, Del., also grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds to record his first collegiate double-double. Pinky Wiley (sr.) added 16 points, while Myles Carter (sr.) tallied 14 and L.J. Stansbury (jr.) 10 for the Hornets. Kent was eight-for-13 from the field and three-of-four at the free throw line. His previous scoring high at Delaware State was 15 points vs. UNC-Wilmington (Dec. 23) and Norfolk State (Jan. 16), while his top rebounding total before today was seven against Lancaster Bible on Feb  3. Kent has scored in double figures in four straight games and six of last seven games. For the season, Myles Carter (sr.) is Delaware State's top scorer at 15.1 points per game to rank sixth in the MEAC. Carter has reached double figures in scoring 11 of his 13 games this season, including a streak of eight in a row. He's also tied for second in the league in free throw shooting at 85.0%. Point guard Pinky Wiley (sr.) is having fine all-around season.  Wiley ranks 12th in the MEAC in scoring at 12.4 points per game. He's also fifth  in the league in assists at 3.9 per game (51 total). In addition, Wiley is third in the league in three-point field goals at 2.2 per game (29), highlighted by a career-best seven vs. Norfolk State on Jan. 17. Kent has established himself as one of the MEAC's best rim protectors, ranking third in the league in blocks per game at 1.6 per game and fourth in total blocks at 19.  
 
Norfolk State has won two straight and four of its last five games to climb to first place in the MEAC North standings. The Spartans are coming off back-to-back wins at Morgan State last weekend, taking the opener 74-69 and winning game two 68-65. NSU's Devante Carter is the MEAC's third leading scorer at 15.8 points per game. He's also tied for ninth in the league in rebounding at 5.3 per contest. As a team, the Spartans are second in the MEAC in scoring at 74.4 points per game and third in scoring defense at 71.8 points per contest.

The Hornets and Spartans are meeting for the third fourth time this season. Norfolk State has won the last nine meetings, including a 94-66 victory on Jan. 30 at Echols Hall. Pinky Wiley (sr.) had career-highs of 29 points, including the 1000th of his career, and seven three-point field goals in the second meeting this season on Jan. 17 at Delaware State. The Hornets have not defeated the Spartans since a 67-64 victory on Feb. 20, 2016 in Dover, Del. Delaware State is also seeking its first win in Echols Hall since a 73-63 overtime  victory on Feb. 15, 2012, a string of six games.
