Delaware State (2-4, 0-0 MEAC) returns home to take on the University of Delaware in the "Route 1 Rivalry, "Â presented by DE529 Education Plan. The Hornets have dropped their last two games, including a 99-65 setback at Long Island in their most recent outing on Nov. 27.The Hornets only trailed 14-9 before LIU ran off the next five points to give the Sharks a double-digit lead at 19-9. LIU led by as many as 21 points on two occasions in the first half and held a 46-27 advantage at the break. Delaware State could get no closer than 17 points in the second half. Three-point shooting and rebounding were differences in the game. LIU nailed 14 threes on 38 attempts (36.8%), while the Hornets hit just five from the beyond the arc on 28 tries (17.9%).The Sharks also held a 53-38 rebound advantage. Myles Carter, who led all players with a career-high 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting from the field, including one three-pointer, and four free throws on four tries. Carter has combined for 49 points in the last two games to raise his season average to a MEAC-high 16.8 points per game. He's also tops the MEAC in rebounding at 7.8 per contest and is third in free throw shooting (.933). DSU's
Dominik Fragala is right behind Carter at second in the MEAC in scoring at 15.7 points per game, highlighted by a career-best 31 points vs. Salisbury on Nov. 12. Fragala is the team leader and second in the MEAC in three-pointers at 2.5 per game (15 total). Hornet center
Chris Sodom (jr,) is No. 1 in the MEAC in blocks at 2.2 per game (13 total) and is third in rebounding at 7.5 per game.       Â

The University of Delaware (5-3; 0-0 CAA) is also coming off a game against Long Island. The Hens defeated LIU 75-67 in Newark, Del., Tuesday evening. Andrew Carr led five UD double-figure scorers with a game-high 18 points, highlighted by eight-for-11 shooting from the field, and also recorded four steals. Kevin Anderson contributed 13 points and a team-high five assists in the game for the Hens. For the season, Dylan Painter is Delaware's top scorer at 15.0 points per game, while Ryan Allen is second at 14.6 per contest. Four UD players average 10-or-more points per game. Painter is also the team's leading rebounder at 6.3 per outing.    Â

Series History ( Delaware leads 15-5)
This is the 21st meeting between the state's e two Division I men's basketball programs. Delaware won the last meeting 86-78 at the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington on Dec. 16, 2019 to open up a 15-5 series lead. The teams did not meet in the 2020-21 season. The last time the Hornets and Hens met at DSU, Delaware pulled out a 68-59 overtime win on Dec. 17, 2017. Delaware State won the first meeting between the teams in 1991. Delaware took the next eight games from 1992 to 2000. The teams did not meet from 2001 to '08. The Hornets won 75-67 in Memorial Hall when the series resumed in 2009.  Â
