Dover, Del. (Nov. 9, 2021)---Delaware State led 25-2 after 11 minutes and never looked back in a wire-to-wire 80-41 win over Cairn in the debut of new Hornets' head coach
Stan Waterman in Memorial Hall this evening.
Waterman was hired to lead the Hornets last summer after a highly successful coaching tenue at Delaware's Sanford School, leading the boys basketball team to eight state championships.
Dominik Fragala led four Delaware State players with a game-high 16 points, highlighted by four three-point field goals on seven attempts.

Khyrie Staten added 11 points each, while
Christopher Smith also came off the bench to score 10 points on five-for-five shooting from field, and led all players with a career-high four blocks.
Ten of the 11 players who competed for the Hornets contributed to the scoring.
Defensively, DSU forced the Highlanders into 16-for- 66 shooting from the field (24.6%), including four-for-31 on three point shots (12.9%).
The Hornets also held a 58-38 rebounding edge.
Fragala scored eight of the Hornets first 10 points, including back-to-back three-pointers. Delaware State led 8-2 before blowing the game open with a 17-0 run.
Staten scored six points and Carter four to key the run. Staten capped off the rally with a lay-up off a miss by the Highlanders to give the Hornets a 25-2 lead with 9:43 to play in the first half.
Delaware State led 37-15 at intermission.
Cairn scored eight of the first 12 points of the second half, and pulled to within 41-23 on a basket by Wes Murray with 17:18 left to play.
The Hornets responded with a 10-0 run, and extended their lead to 51-23 on a basket and free throw with 14:11 remaining in the game.
Delaware State shot 42.1% for the game (33-for-73), including seven-for-24 on three-point attempts (29.2%).

Chris Sodom had a career-high nine points, while also contributing a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks to the win.
Delaware State is back in action on Friday (Nov. 12) at home against Salisbury. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
