Alondra Maldonado had 12 kills and
Kristi Gomez added 11 to lead Delaware State to a 3-0 victory over South Carolina State in a MEAC volleyball contest in Orangeburg, S.C., today. The scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 27-25.
The Hornets added to their school record by shutting out an opponent for the 18
th time to improve to 21-3 overall and 9-2 in the MEAC this season.
Delaware State's record for wins in a season is 23 by the 1987 squad (23-6).
Maldonado posted a .529 hitting percentage in the match, collecting her 12 kills on 17 attacks to raise her percentage to .340 for the season. Â Â
Gomez recorded a .348 hitting percentage in the contest (11 kills on 23 attempts), while also contributing two aces and five digs to the win.
Malgorzata Andersohn led the Hornets with 22 assists, while
Valeria Otero had a match-high seven digs for DSU.
Sydney Lewis had four kills on five attacks (.600) and tied for match-high honors with three aces.
Gomez had five kills and Maldonado four to lead the Hornets to the set one win.
Delaware State tallied 15 kills and just two errors on 19 attacks (.684) to highlight the win in set two.
In the third set, the Hornets came from behind to win after trailing 19-15.
DSU posted a .342 hitting percentage for the match, recording 44 kills and 17 errors on 79 attacks.
The Bulldogs had 28 kills and 17 errors on 74 attempts for a .149 percentage in the contest.
The Hornets return to action on Friday (Nov. 5) for their final home match of the season, taking on Morgan State at 6:00 p.m. The team will honor its 2021 seniors prior to the contest.
