LADY HORNETS DEFEATED BY DRAGONS

Philadelphia, Pa. (Jan. 9 2021) --- Delaware State Lady Hornets fall to the Drexel Dragons 70-47. In a non-conference matchup, Saturday afternoon. The Lady Hornets' record now falls to 2-4 on the season.

DSU guard Janasia Law assists DeMaurea Moore on a layup, tying the game at 4 with 5:52 left in the first quarter.

Drexel responds with an 8-0 spurt, that ends with a jumper from forward Kate Connolly, extending the lead to 12-4 with 1:10 remaining.

The Lady Hornets respond with back-to-back scores from Zoe Holmes and Sharajah Collins to cut the deficit to four. However, the Dragon's Keishana Washington drains a three, pushing their lead to seven at 15-8, just before the first quarter ends.

The Dragons out score DSU 18-6 in the second quarter and takes a 33-14 lead into the half.

Drexel never trailed in the contest.

The Dragons lead 38-16 after a basket from Drexel forward Mariah Leonard with 7:35 left in the third quarter.

The Lady Hornets respond with a 13-5 run. Kiana Coomber made three basket's during the spurt, as she had her best game of the young season. Coomber finishes the contest with 16 points and 10 rebounds (both season highs) for her first double-double of the season.

The Lady Hornets spurt cut the deficit to just 14, DSU swingman Miajah Bullock caps off the run draining a three-pointer with 1:28 left in the third quarter.

Delaware State would not get any closer, Drexel outscores the Lady Hornets 23-16 in the final quarter.

The Lady Hornets shot 16-of-52 (30.8%) from the field, including 4-of-11 (36.4%) and 11-of-13 (84.6%) from the free throw line.

DSU guard Sharajah Collins records 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Naomi Shorts adds eight points and one rebound.
