THE GAMEÂ
Delaware State (4-24; 3-11 MEAC) is looking to build on its best performance of the season in the last game. The Hornets snapped a seven-game losing streak with an 84-63 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in their last outing this past Saturday. The 21-point margin of victory was DSU's largest against a MEAC opponent since an 81-55 win over Howard on Feb. 11, 2008.
Myles Carter came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points and
Pinky Wiley also tallied to lead five double-figure scorers for the Hornets. Carter has reached double-figures in scoring in seven straight and eight of the last nine games, while Wiley has combined for 45 points in the last two contests and also reached double-figures in each of the last seven games. In addition, Wiley has hit 10 three-point field goals in the last two outings. Fahim Jenetto contributed 14 points,
Omari Peek-Green 12 and
Ameer Bennett 10 to the win. DSU's
John Crosby, the MEAC's leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, was held to eight points, but led all players with five assists. Crosby is still the MEAC's top scorer this season, averaging 19.5 points per game.
Ameer Bennett (jr.) is DSU's second leading scorer (9.7 ppg) and top rebounder at 5.9 per game. Wiley is fifth in the MEAC in assists at 3.3 per game (93 total). Crosby, along with fellow seniors
Jordan Bushrod and Joseph White will be making their final Memorial Hall appearance this evening.Â
Norfolk State (14-15; 10-4 MEAC) is current third in the MEAC standings, just one game behind co-leaders North Carolina A&T (11-3) and NC Central (11-3). The Spartans snapped a two-game losing streak with an 89-59 victory over Howard last Saturday. NSU was never seriously threatened in the game, and held a 51-28 lead at the half. Jermaine Bishop led the Spartans with a game-high 26 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field, including 6-of-11 on three-point attempts. Bishop is fifth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.1 points per game. He also leads all MEAC players with 89 three-point field goals this season.    Â
