Collegeville, Pa. (Feb. 8) --- The Delaware State Hornets competed in the 2020 Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College, on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Ibrahim Bangura continues to impress, as the rookie finishes in first place in the 60 meters for the third time this year. He crosses the finish line in 6.97 seconds. Not too far behind is veteran sprinter Edwin Rosembert who places in third with a time of 7.09 seconds.
Dante Artis places first with 22.78 seconds (1st career first place finish), Kendall Leach finishes in third at 22.89 seconds while Kavante Dawson places ninth out of 65 sprinters with a time of 23.29 seconds.
The Hornets dominate the 400 meters. Julian Brown places first crossing the finish line in 50.36 seconds. This is Brown's 10th time finishing in first place (including relays). In second place is Kendall Leach with 50.66 seconds and third place also belongs to Hornets as Keith Washington finishes with a time of 50.93 seconds.
Freshman Elijah Mclaren places first in the 60-meter hurdles for the first time of his career (third first place finish overall) with a time of 8.50 seconds. Kavante Dawson finishes fourth at 8.62 seconds and Thomas White places fifth with 8.92 seconds.
The 4x400 relay team of Gerald Amobi, Donte Rolley-Williams, Kendall Leach and Dante Artis places first with a time of 3-minutes-42.78 seconds (3:42.78).
The 4x800 relay team of Gerald Amobi, Corey McGhie, Donte Rolley-Williams and Elton Quansan places first as well with 8:16.33.
The 4x200 relay team of Kavante Dawson, Edwin Rosembert, Keith Washington and Malachi Pankey places second with 1:33.94.
Gerald Amobi places second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.33, Corey McGhie finishes fifth with 2:00.58 and Dante Rolley-Williams places eighth at 2:01.64.
Delaware State is successful in the field portion of the Invitational as well. They dominate the Long Jump with Tre Johnson garnering his 1st first place finish in the Long Jump (fifth first place finish overall) with 6.79 meters, Elijah Mclaren places second with 6.57 meters and Karim Beatty is third with 6.57 meters as well (Elijah is second due to a tie-breaker secenario).
Freshman Thomas White places gets his first career first place finish with 13.94 meters in the triple jump. Elijah Mclaren places third with 13.58 meters and Karim Beatty finishes sixth with 12.38 meters.
