LADY HORNETS LOSE CRITICAL MEAC GAME TO SPARTANS IN OVERTIME

Norfolk, Va. (Feb. 8) --- Delaware State Lady Hornets fall in overtime 65-57 to the Norfolk State Spartans. La'Deja James leads all scorers with 27 points. Delaware State drops to 9-12 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) DSU is now 2.5 games behind the Spartans for first place in the MEAC.

Lady Hornets guard Lyric Turner hits a step back three from the top of the arc, DSU leads 45-36 with 8:32 left in the fourth quarter.

After a basket from the Spartans, DSU guard Janasia Law drops in the mid-range jumper despite being fouled. Law is unable to complete three-point play though but the Lady Hornets increase their lead back to nine points.

Norfolk State guard Cam Platt-Morris euro-steps past two Lady Hornets defenders for the layup cutting the deficit back to seven.

A couple of possessions later La'Deja James steals the ball at half court and passes it to Platt-Morris for the transition layup.

DSU guard Lanayjha Ashe blows by her defender at the top of the arc and finishes with the righty layup off the glass. Bringing the lead back to nine with 4:39 left in the fourth.

Norfolk State scores back to back layups after, forcing back to back steals with their full court pressure. The 4-0 spurt cuts the deficit to just five points with 2:35 left.

NSU forward Mikaela Jones scores in the paint to cut the deficit to just three-points with 1:23 left in the fourth.

Ashe gets fouled as she drives hard into the lane. She hits both free-throws to extend the lead back to five points with just 58 seconds left.

The Lady Hornets try to take some time off the game clock, however they were unable to get into their offensive set due to some miscommunication, Ashe is forced to rush a shot before the shot-clock expires and it is no good. Norfolk State grabs the rebound with 14 seconds remaining and calls timeout.

NSU guard Dana Echols drives into the lane and kicks the ball out to a wide-open Cam Platt-Morris who buries a clutch three-pointer tying the game at 53-53.

DSU forward Miajah Bullock gets a relatively good look for three, as time expires, but it is no good and the MEAC foes head into overtime.  

Platt-Morris opens overtime the same way she ended the fourth quarter, and that is with another three-pointer.

After being fouled Norfolk State's forward Mikaela Jones hits one of two free throws, giving NSU a four-point lead.

 A few possessions later La'Deja James is fouled on a put back attempt and she hits two free throws giving NSU a six-point lead with 1:37 left in the overtime period.

The Spartans defense were able to stifle the Lady Hornets in overtime and they convert on several free-throws to put the game out of reach.

The Lady Hornets led by as many as 13 points with 1:34 left in the third quarter.

Delaware State shot just 16-of-60 from the field (26.7%) including just 6-of-26 (23.1%) on three-pointers. Lyric Turner led three Lady Hornets in double figures with 16 points, five rebounds and one steal. Lanayjha Ashe added 15 points and two rebounds, while Tierra Floyd had 12 points, a team high four steals and three rebounds.

Norfolk State made 23-of-58 (39.7) field goal attempts, they shot a lowly 4-of-22 (18.2%) from beyond the arc.

Cam Platt-Moore scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds. Mikaela Jones tallied 11 points and nine rebounds.
