HORNETS RUN OUT OF GAS IN LOSS TO BEARS

Baltimore, Md. (Feb. 24, 2020) --- Delaware State cut an 18-point second half deficit to five with four minutes left to play, but came up short in a 90-80 MEAC men's basketball loss to Morgan State Monday evening.
The Hornets dropped their seventh straight game to fall to 3-24 overall and 2-11 in the MEAC. The Bears won their second straight to improve to 15-14 and 9-5.
Delaware State trailed 46-36 at the half and fell behind 72-54 after a three-pointer by MSU's Stanley Davis with 10:45 left to play.
The Hornets answered with a 13-2 run, and pulled to within 74-67 on a lay-up by Fahim Jenetto off a feed from John Crosby at the 8:27 mark of the second half.
Pinky Wiley had five points, including a three-point field goal, and Omari Peek-Green knocked down a three-ball to key the DSU rally.
The Hornets pulled to within 80-75 when Crosby hit two free throws with 4:12 remaining in the game.
DSU could get no closer the rest of the way.
Wiley was high scorer for the Hornets with a season-high 26 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field, including season-best five three-pointers (5-11), and seven free throws in eight attempts.
Peek-Green was second on team with 17 points (6-11 FG; 4-7 3ptFG) and led the Hornets with eight rebounds.
Davis was the high man for Morgan State with 27 points to lead all players, while Jamar Brown added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bears.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday (Feb. 29) at Maryland-Eastern Shore. DSU will play its final home game of the season next Monday (Mar. 2) against Norfolk State (7:30 p.m.)..
