Dover, Del. (Feb. 19, 2020) --- Delaware State University athletics has joined forces with one of the nation's leading providers of physical therapy services to benefit Hornet student-athletes.
The partnership with Pivot Physical Therapy will strengthen existing health, wellness and injury prevention services for DSU's nearly 400 student-athletes.
Under this multi-year agreement, Delaware State and Pivot will develop policies and procedures to ensure student-athlete health, safety and well-being, from pre-participation physicals to direct access to physicians, physical therapy and other specialists, along with daily interaction with athletics trainers.
Seven Pivot athletics trainers will provide daily onsite services for DSU's 18 NCAA Division I programs, while working collaboratively with administration, strength and conditioning, and nutrition experts to provide comprehensive care for Hornet student-athletes.
Delaware State athletics administration views this partnership as an innovative approach to providing optimal care for all Hornet student-athletes.
"The name recognition of Pivot grants us access to an extended network of health care providers and other experts, which can often take years to establish as a separate entity," said
Dennis Hawkins, DSU Associate Director of Athletics for Administration and Finance. "This partnership may also be a pioneering model for other universities to consider when dealing with a continuum of care for student-athletes."
According to Pivot management, the company is excited to take its relationship with DSU to new heights.
"In managing the Delaware State athletics training program, rather than just providing assistants, we are able to draw on the abundance of resources we have at our disposal as one of the top PT companies in the country," said Chris Horowicz, Pivot's Senior Director of Sports Medicine.
"In addition, the agreement strengthens the existing bonds between Delaware State University and Pivot, along with the greater Dover community. We hope to use the partnership that DSU has implemented as a model for future endeavors with other colleges/universities."Â
