DSU W LAX OPENS 2020 SEASON WITH LOSS TO LEOPARDS

Dover, Del. (Feb. 15, 2020) --- The Delaware State women's lacrosse team put up a tough fight but it was not enough in an 18-6 loss to Lafayette in season opener for both teams at Alumni Stadium today. The contest also marked the debut for new DSU head coach Pam Jenkins.
Lizzie O'Brien scored four goals and Olivia Cunningham had three goals and an assist to lead the Leopards. A total of nine players scored for Lafayette.
Jordan Santana and Gwenna Gentle scored two goals each to top the scoresheet for the Hornets.
Lafayette scored five goals in the first 10-plus minutes to take control of the game.
Delaware State scored for the first time on a free position shot by Santana at the 17:39 mark of the first half.
The Hornets trailed 7-1 when Gentle scored for the first time with 13:23 left in the first half.
Jasmine West added a first half goal (10:59) and Gentle scored for the second time with 5:45 to go before the break, but Lafayette led 11-4 at intermission.
Delaware State trailed 13-6 after Santana tallied her second goal with 20:47 left to go, but could get no closer.
Lafayette outshot the Hornets 30-14.
Allie St. Pierre came off the bench to record six saves for DSU.
Delaware State is back in action on Monday at home against Longwood. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
