LADY HORNETS THIRD QUARTER SURGE NOT ENOUGH

Delaware State drops it's season series vs North Carolina A&T

Greensboro, N.C. (Jan. 27) --- Delaware State falls to North Carolina A&T 58-53. The Lady Hornets record now stands at 7-11 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Delaware State is trailing 56-53, when Aggies guard Mikaya Wilson drives into the lane. DSU guard Lyric Turner slides in the way and takes the charge with :40 seconds left, giving DSU the ball with a chance to tie the game.

On the ensuing possession Lyric Turner turns the ball back over to Wilson. The Aggies hit two free throws to put the game out of reach.

The lead changed several times during the fourth quarter.

With under 8 minutes left in the game Sharajah Collins makes both free throws to put DSU up 39-38.  After the Aggies retake the lead, Lyric Turner knocks down a step back three with just under 5 minutes left to play.

Two possessions later Mikaya Wilson makes a layup giving the Aggies a 43-42 lead, but Turner again buries a three, as she uses an in & out crossover to create separation. Her basket gives DSU a 45-43 lead with 3:53 remaining.

North Carolina A&T called timeout and responded with a 10-0 run. The run is capped off by a layup from Jayla Jones-Pack to take a 53-45 lead with 2:15 left in the game.
Turner however continues her red-hot shooting, as she hits her third triple of the night to cut the deficit to just five.

However, North Carolina A&T guard Deja Winters responds with a three to lead 56-48 with 1:40 left.

On the following possession DSU forward DeMaurea Moore gets the ball in the paint and kicks it out to a wide open Sharajah Collins who makes another three for the Lady Hornets.
Following two misses at the free throw line for the Aggies, Sharajah Collins grabs the rebound and dishes the ball to Moore in transition for the layup. Moore's basket cuts the lead to just three points with 40 seconds left, but the Lady Hornets were unable to get any closer.

Delaware State trailed 31-19 heading into halftime, they opened the second half scoring 12 unanswered points tying the game at 31 apiece. The run was capped off by Turner beating her defender with a crafty hesitation move before dishing the ball to Zoe Holmes for the layup with 3:31 left in the third quarter.
