LADY HORNETS WIN WITH ASHE'S LATE GAME HEROICS

Durham, N.C. (Jan. 25) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets defeat the North Carolina Central Eagles 64-60.  The Lady Hornets are now 7-10 overall, matching their win total of last season. In addition DSU is 3-1 in the mid-eastern athletic conference (MEAC), their best start since winning four straight games to start the 2008-2009 conference season. This win snaps the Lady Hornets 12 game losing streak in MEAC road games, their last win coming in January 22, 2018 at. Morgan State.

Lanayjha Ashe hits one of two technical free throws. Ashe is fouled again on the ensuing inbounds and hits one of two free throws again to seal the game at 64-60.  

Down two points North Carolina Central gets called for a technical foul, as they call a timeout to avoid the five second inbound violation. However, they did not have any timeouts
remaining. The mistake gives the Lady Hornets two technical free throws and possession of the ball after the free throws.

Janasia Law passes the ball to Ashe at the top of the key, the North Carolina native drives through the middle of the defense and finishes with a floater off the glass, giving the Hornets a 62-60 lead with 4.9 seconds left.

Ashe finishes the game with 18 points (nine in the 4th quarter), ties a team high with seven rebounds, also adds one steal and one assist.

NCCU guard Kieche White drives to the rim and scores despite being fouled by Lyric Turner. White misses the free throw, keeping the score tied at 60-60, DSU forward Tierra Floyd grabs the rebound and the Lady Hornets call timeout with 13 seconds remaining.

White led the Eagles with 19 points in the contest.

Eagles forward Anissa Rivera grabs the offensive rebound and scores a layup shrinking the Hornet lead to just two points with :59 seconds left.

Ashe receives a pick from teammate Tierra Floyd, opening the lane for the speedy guard to drive through and finish with a layup, extending the lead to four at 60-56.

Kieche White finds Madalyn Anderson in the corner and she hits the open three, cutting DSU's lead to 58-56 with 2:05 remaining.

Kieche White drives right and uses a scoop layup to score off the glass. The Lady Hornets lead 58-53 with 2:33 left.

Floyd pump fakes a defender, steps in and banks a jumper from the left wing off the glass, Lady Hornets lead 58-51.

Tierra Floyd hits jumper from the right wing giving the Lady Hornets a five-point lead with 3:38 remaining.

DSU guard Sharajah Collins gets fouled on a three-point attempt. She hits two out of three free throws giving the Lady Hornets a 54-51 with 4:03 left in the game.

Lanayjha Ashe uses a pick from Zoe Holmes to get into the lane and finish with a floater to retake the lead at 52-51.

The Lady Hornets entered the fourth quarter with a 45-43 lead. The Eagles briefly took the lead after Ashlyn Lockard hit a pull-up jumper with 5:00 left in the game.

Delaware State led by as many as 11 points with 5:30 left in the third quarter.

The Lady Hornets shot 22-of-59 (37.3%) from the field, including just 3-of-18 (16.7%) on three-point attempts.

Sharajah Collins led all scorers with 21 points, she also added three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Tierra Floyd added 13 points, five rebounds, a team high four steals and a team high two blocks.

DeMaurea Moore grabbed seven rebounds tying a team high for the game.

North Carolina Central shot 22-of-55 (40.0%) from the field, but just 2-of-10 (20.0%) on three-point attempts.

NCCU forward Paulina Afriyie totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds, Madalyn Anderson added 12 points.
