HORNETS EARN 18 UEC ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

Dover, Del. (Mar. 27, 2019) --- Eleven members of the Delaware State equestrian team earned a combined 18 United Equestrian Conference All-Academic accolades for their work in the classroom. The United Equestrian Conference today released its 2018-19 All-Academic Teams.

Delaware State led the conference with 18 total awards-including four First Team, two Second Team, three Honorable Mention, and nine Honor Roll honorees. The Hornets were ahead of the 2019 UEC Champion SMU Mustangs who totaled 16 awards combined. UC Davis, South Dakota State, and UT Martin tied for third with 15 team awards apiece, while Fresno State collected 14 and Sweet Briar College tallied six. A total of 99 student-athletes from the seven conference teams earned All-Academic recognition.

Juniors Eva Epstein and Shelbe Jarrett were accompanied by sophomore Zoe Kirsch and Kelsey McArthur as All- Academic First Team honorees. Sophomores Gabrielle Fournier and Sydney Wicklund followed with All-Academic Second Team accolades. Juniors Blayne Bell, Elizabeth Lynch along with senior, Angelina Watts claimed spots on the All-Academic Honorable Mention team. 

To earn first team status, a student-athlete must have competed in at least 70 percent of their school's meets and earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. Second team honorees must have competed in a minimum of 60 percent of their school's meets and achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, while honorable mention status requires that a student-athlete must have competed in at least 50 percent of their school's meets in addition to earning a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.00. Furthermore, demos and exhibition do not qualify for the award and all student-athletes must maintain full-time enrollment in the previous spring (2018) and fall (2018) semesters. 

The Hornets also boasted nine honor roll recipients as Epstein, Jarrett, Kirsch, Lynch, McArthur, Watts, and Wicklund were joined by junior Erin Gordon and sophomore Mary McCausland. To qualify for honor roll, a student-athlete must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring (2018) and fall (2018) semesters.
