BENNETT HOMERS IN DOUBLEHEADER LOSS TO TERPS

College Park, Md. (Apr. 24, 2013) --- Ashley Bennett's three-run homer in game two was the highlight of Delaware State's doubleheader loss to Maryland at Taylor Stadium today. The Hornets lost the opener 11-0 and was defeated 12-3 in the nightcap.

Delaware State was held to four hits in the opener, which was called after the Hornets batted in the fifth due to the eight-run rule.

Maryland led 4-0 before scoring seven runs in the fourth to blow the game open.

In the nightcap, Chloe Oro and Nicole Gazzolla singled with one out before Bennett blasted her fifth home run of the season over the fence in centerfield to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead.

Delaware State's lead was short lived. Maryland scored four runs in the bottom of the first and five in the second to take control of the game.

Gazzolla and Jen Fischbach had two hits each in game two for the Hornets.

Delaware State returns home to face MEAC North rival Howard this weekend. The teams will play a doublheader on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and  single game on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).
