DOVER, Del. - The Delaware State University equestrian team swept three of four events Friday afternoon en route to a 12-2 exhibition victory of Route 1 Rival University of Delaware at the Gambler's Choice Equestrian Center.

The Hornets took home all four points in the reining event as sophomore Kali Voshell (Felton, Del.) earned MVP honors.  Voshell finished the event with a score of 70 on Joker.Fellow sophomore Brianna Fedorkowicz (Harrington, Del.) scored an event-high 72 on her ride on Lyle.  Freshman Lindsay Blum (Henderson, Md.) and senior Shelby Bonneville (New Windsor, Md.) rounded out the reining scoring with respective scores of 70.5 and 69.5.

In the Hunterseat events, Del State won six points and tied two.  In her first ride for the Hornets, freshman Carlin Savage (Salisbury, Md.) earned MVP honors with her ride of 77 on Clayton in Equitation over Fences.  Senior Alyssa Berfield (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored a 72 in her ride on M.G.  Also riding for the first time for DSU, sophomore Heather Hotz (Atco, N.J.) earned a point for the Hornets with her ride of 72 on Raven. 

The trio also won their points in the Equitation event.  Savage recorded a 71 on Wyatt while Hotz scored a 68 on Mick and Berfield collected a 57 on Raven.

DSU and UD tied in the Horsemanship event, 2-2.  Freshman Brooke Moore (Dover, Del.) earned MVP honors for her 75-point ride on Orkie.  Senior McKenzie Trueba (Williams, Ariz.) also won her point for the Hornets with a 73.5 on Party Doll.

In total, the Hornets outscored the Blue Hens, 998.5 to 883.5, in the exhibition scrimmage.

Delaware State will open their regular season next weekend at SMU and the Baylor Willis Invitational.  The Hornets take on the Mustangs on Thursday while heading to Baylor on Saturday.  They next compete at Gambler's Choice on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Tennessee-Martin and South Dakota State.
