MASCOT BUZZ GRADUATES AS DSU INTRODUCES ?TOO-FLY?

DOVER, Del. - In the midst of Monday evening's men's and women's basketball doubleheader against Florida A&M University, Delaware State University unveiled a new-look mascot with a new name.

Over the years, the stinging Delaware State Hornet has symbolized the strength and spirit of DSU's athletic teams.  The proud Hornet has stood tall through countless battles; leading DSU's teams to victory, while letting the whole world know that wherever Delaware State plays is "Hornet Territory."

While he is loved by Hornet fans and children around the world, he is feared by many.  Among those who have felt his sting are UMES' "Harry T. Hawk," the Hampton "Pirate," and the Florida A&M "Rattler."

On Monday, January 23, 2012, the Delaware State University Board of Trustees and President Harry L. Williams certified that "Buzz The Hornet" has completed in a satisfactory manner the necessary requirements of Delaware State University to be awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spirit and Entertainment Sciences.

Like all DSU graduates, Buzz was recruited by numerous employers and has accepted an exciting position with a prestigious entertainment company.

With Buzz's graduation, the Delaware State administration was proud to present their newest Hornet in front of a packed Memorial Hall.  After receiving applications from thousands of the nation's best and brightest, DSU's Interim Athletic Director, Eric Hart, and Vice President of Student Affairs, Kemal Atkins, introduced the brand new mascot, "Too-Fly."

As a last act of service to Delaware State University, Buzz gave a few lessons to Too-Fly after his introduction.  The two danced and greeted fans during the doubleheader intermission before Buzz let Too-Fly grow on his own during the men's game.  Too-Fly brought with him the winning spirit as the men's team snapped an eight-game losing streak with their 65-51 victory over FAMU.

Too-Fly can be seen at each home game throughout the rest of the men's and women's basketball season and will make his first trip to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament from March 6-11 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
