HORNETS PLUNDERED BY PIRATES

Dover, Del. (Jan. 30, 2010) --- Quanneisha Perry scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Hampton Pirates (9-10, 5-3 MEAC) to a 62-43 victory over the Delaware State Hornets on Saturday at Memorial Hall in Dover.

Sophomore guard Alexis Abraham was the high scorer for the red and blue, picking up 10 points, and senior center Alex Stewart notched eight points and six rebounds for DSU (3-17, 1-6 MEAC).

The Pirates controlled the action from the opening tip, starting the game with a 14-2 run, and led the contest from wire to wire.  Hampton controlled the first half by winning the battle on the glass, outrebounding DSU 25-12, including a 10-4 advantage on the offensive boards.  The Pirates would head to intermission shooting 15-32 from the floor, including 4-6 for 10 points by sophomore guard Bernadette Fortune.  Abraham was the standout for the Hornets, leading the home team with seven points and three rebounds.

A Kianna D'Oliveira layup with 17:25 to play would cut the Hampton advantage to 16, but DSU would be able to no closer.  Fortune would finish the contest with 16 points, and Jericka Jenkins picked up 13 points and six assists for Hampton.  Senior Brittany Washington would come off the bench for seven second-half points for the Hornets on 3-6 shooting.

DSU is back in action Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. when they take on the Howard Bison.  Live stats for the game will be available on DSUHornets.com.
