McQUEEN AND LOCHNER EARN MEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (September 28, 2009) - Running back Tahree McQueen has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, while punter Nick Lochner earned the league's Special Teams Player of the Week honor for the week ending Sept .27 as announced by the conference today.

McQueen recorded his first-career 100-yard rushing performance during DSU's 21-6 win at Hampton on Saturday. The Paterson, N.J., native carried the ball a career-high 21 times for 102 yards for an average of 4.9 yards-per-game. McQueen also registered a career-best 18-yard rush versus the Pirates in just his third appearance with the Hornets. The 5-foot-10 running back also caught three passes for 25 yards. Both totals were a career-best. On the day, McQueen recorded 127 all-purpose yards on Saturday.

This is McQueen's first player of the week honor.

Lochner recorded six punts for 264 yards versus the Pirates on Saturday, pinning Hampton deep in its own territory each time. On the day, Lochner recorded two punts of 50 yards-or-more, including a season-best 60-yard punt. Two of his punts were fair caught and three were inside the 20-yard line as Hampton returned three punts for a total of six yards. Lochner ranks No. 47 in the nation in punting (38.7 yards-per-punt). Lochner also registered eight yards on the ground. On fourth-&-eight, Lochner took a botched snap and rushed for a first down, keeping DSU's drive going to start the second quarter. The drive resulted in the Hornets' first touchdown of the game.

This week's honor marks the first of the season for Lochner and the second of his career.

Also recognized as "Other Top Performances" for their play this past weekend were quarterback Anthony Glaud, defensive back Greg Ligon and offensive lineman Nail Muradymov. Glaud earned his first victory as DSU's starting quarterback, leading the Hornets to a 21-6 win over Hampton on Saturday. The Sicklerville, N.J., native completed 20-of-31 passes for 150 yards and his second touchdown pass of the season. Ligon recorded three tackles and notched the first two picks of his career as DSU earned its first win of the season. Muradymov allowed no sacks and no quarterback hurries versus the Pirates, while tallying a career-best eight pancake blocks, protecting quarterback Anthony Glaud (20-of-31, 150 yds., 1 TD) and opening holes for Tahree McQueen (21 rush, 102 yards). Muradymov also recorded his second field goal block of the season, batting away a 33-yard attempt by Hampton's Jordan Stovall late in the second quarter

Delaware State is off this week and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 versus the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
