EASTON, Pa. (September 6, 2008) ? After losing a tough five-game battle against Fairleigh Dickinson, DSU split it's two matches on the second day of the Lafayette College Tournament. The Hornets (3-3) lost to host Lafayette 3-0 (16-25, 23-25, 19-25) and beat St. Peter's 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19). The Hornets posted a 1-2 record for the tournament.
After an early morning loss to Lafayette, the Hornets became focused on St. Peters. In that match, sophomore Erica Tajchman tied her career-high with 21 kills while junior Cassandra Joyner added 13 kills.
Setters Sarah Wheatcroft and Martina Ferrari combined for 40 assists. Wheatcroft tied her career-high with 26.
Ferrari was dominant on the defensive side as well, registering 18 digs.
DSU will travel to the nation's capital, Washington D.C. to compete in the George Washington Tournament. The Hornets will play host George Washington at 7 p.m. on 9/12, Rider at 10 a.m. on 9/13, and St. Francis-NY at 3 p.m.
