HORNETS SUFFER 86-58 LOSS AT MARYLAND

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (December 12, 2008) ? Maryland's Landon Milbourne scored 23 points to lead the Terrapins (7-2) to an 86-58 win over the Delaware State Men's Basketball Team (2-11) at the Comcast Center on Friday, December 12. The Hornets committed 16 turnovers and shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the floor en route to the team's second-straight loss.

"We just got beat by a much better basketball team," said Head Coach Greg Jackson. "We have to learn how to put to basketball halves together but, it is hard to do when you are playing with a team of this caliber. You can only play on emotion for so long until talent takes over. They (Maryland) are a good basketball team. They are talented at all five positions and create a lot of problems, moving well without the basketball. It's hard to really compete with teams like this."

Led by Kris Douse, who registered 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, the Hornets were held to under 40.0 percent form the field for the first time in three games. Shooting 4-of-16 (25.0 percent) from behind the arc, DSU improved its consecutive games with a 3-pointer streak to over 421 games. Douse's 14 points were a career-high for the Brampton, Ontario, native. Arturo Dubois recorded double-digit scoring in seventh-straight game, notching 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. The Harlem, N.Y., native also grabbed eight rebounds. Senior Donald Johnson poured in 10 points, converting 4-of-16 shots versus the Terrapins.

Maryland finished the night shooting 51.7 percent (31-of-60) from the floor and became the first team to score more than 80 points versus the Delaware State this season. Milbourne led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 9-of-12 on the evening. He also registered seven rebounds. Three other Terrapins tallied scoring figures in double-digits - Adrian Bowie (12 pts.), Greivis Vasquez (16 pts.) and Eric Hayes (12 pts.). Vasquez also notched seven assists and recorded eight rebounds.

Maryland out-rebounded the Hornets 41-30 (27-17 in defensive boards). DSU's 16 turnovers resulted in 22 Terrapin points.

UM jumped out to a 28-9 lead following a 3-pointer by Bowie at the 8:23 mark in the first half. DSU scored back-to-back buckets (both by Dubois) to cut the Terrapins' lead to 15 (28-13 ? 6:29 left in the first half). However Maryland increased its lead to 23 points after Dino Gregory converted a layup with 3:03 left in the first half, following an 8-0 run. The Terps held on to a 20+-point lead for the remainder of the half until a bucket by Douse with one second left in the half. Shooting 33.3 percent (10-of-30) during the first 20 minutes, Delaware State entered halftime trailing, 40-21.

The Terrapins regained their 20-point lead, out-scoring the Hornets 15-6 through the first five minutes of the second half. Maryland maintained its lead for the remainder of the second half, increasing its advantage by as many as 27 points. DSU was out-scored 46-37 in the second half, falling to UM, 86-58.

Delaware State will head to Piscataway, N.J. to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sunday, Dec. 14. Game time is 2 p.m.
