DSU VOLLEYBALL EARNS HARD EARNED FIVE-SET VICTORY AT HOWARD

DOVER (October 26, 2008) ?  Junior Cassandra Joyner found her stroke tallying 17 kills on the day, as well as racking up eight digs, to propel Delaware State to a 3-2 (18-25, 25-13, 25-14, 16-25, 16-14) victory over Howard (12-15, 6-2 MEAC).  With the win, the Hornets improve their MEAC record to 5-3 (11-10 overall).

Errors hurt both teams in the first set as DSU recorded a -.069 attack percentage while Howard tallied a .097 percentage.

The Hornets came alive in the second and third sets as they were able to capitalize on their offensive opportunities as well as force the Bison to make mistakes.  DSU held Howard to under a .100 attack percentage in both of those sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Howard would turn the tables on Delaware State in the fourth set as they were able to hold the Hornets to a .095 attack percentage to take the fourth set, tying the match, 2-2.

The fifth and deciding set went back and forth until the Bison recorded two critical errors late to hand over the set and the match to the Hornets.

DSU had three players with double-digit digs in the match including freshman setter Martina Ferrari with 13.  She also finished with 15 assists giving her the first double-double of her career.  Sophomore Sarah Wheatcroft also tallied her first double-double of the season with 20 assists and 11 digs.  She also tallied six kills in the effort.

Leading the way for the Bison was setter Grace DiMichelis who recorded a double-double of her own with 36 assists and 12 digs.

The Hornets have won three of their last four matches and will return home on Friday, October 31, to face Morgan State.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
