Coach

Allen McCreary

McCreary is in his first season on the Delaware State staff. He most recently served as head coach at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Cal., since 2018.
In the fall of 2021, McCreary helped guide the Urban Knights through their first full slate of matches since 2019. Highlights from the campaign included two victories to start, a three-part win streak bridging October and November and the program's single-season records in both kills (12.81) and assists per set (12.03).
Academy of Art also garnered numerous postseason honors with outside hitter Ashley Mecham earning Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year and All-PacWest Second Team along with setter Picabo Reinhold and libero Elena Torres.

Returning to the court for the first time in over a year, Academy of Art volleyball competed in an abbreviated six-match spring campaign for its 2020-21 season. Along with valuable experience gained particularly for its freshman class, ART U finished with three players ranking among the Pacific West Conference statistical leaders including freshman outside hitter Ashley Mecham third with 3.45 kills per set. The team garnered a total of eight Academic All-PacWest honors at the year's end as well.

In the biggest turnaround of any PacWest team, Academy of Art volleyball highlighted its 2019 campaign with series sweeps of four conference opponents, a stretch where ART U won six of seven, multiple PacWest postseason honors plus 11 Academic All-PacWest selections, and, following an 11-win improvement from 2018, the program's second-most victories in the Urban Knights' NCAA Championship era.

Guiding the team to its most matches played in program history, McCreary and the Urban Knights' 2018 campaign was highlighted by senior outside hitter Safua Elisaia breaking the program's career blocks record, middle blocker Jillian Wheaton earning three PacWest Freshman of the Week honors en route to All-PacWest Team Honorable Mention, and seven selections to the Academic All-PacWest Team.

UC Merced's first head coach, McCreary was most recently an assistant coach at Winthrop and brings more than 10 years of collegiate coaching experience to ART U.

Assisting Winthrop through its 2016 campaign, McCreary helped guide the Eagles to an improvement in overall wins from the year prior including six wins in their last seven matches. There, he handled fundraising activities, supervision of student-athlete classroom performance, recruiting, and skill development among other responsibilities.

Over the course of five seasons as the women's volleyball head coach at UC Merced (2011-2015), McCreary's teams showed steady development and, after reaching the California Pacific Conference championship for the first time in program history in year four, the Bobcats had their best record to date in his final season. McCreary was the NAIA program's first volleyball coach, coming on to transition the program from a club to a competitive varsity-level team. During his tenure, he coached a Cal Pac Player of the Year, one Cal Pac Freshman of the Year, 10 All-Cal Pac Team honorees, and had his squads earn NAIA Scholar-Team on two occasions.

Prior to his time at UC Merced, McCreary was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Towson University. He also spent two years as an assistant at Angelo State, where he helped guide the teams to the conference tournament twice, and started his collegiate coaching career at Holy Names where he was the head coach for two seasons. Highlighting McCreary's time at Holy Names was the Hawks' advancement to the NAIA Region II playoffs in 2007, a year in which McCreary was named Cal Pac Coach of the Year. While at HNU, McCreary also served as the head coach of the men's volleyball team.

Before Holy Names, McCreary was an assistant coach at Merced College from 2004-2006 and he began his coaching career with the head role at Hughson High from 1999 to 2004 where he compiled a 136-40 record and led the team to six consecutive playoff appearances.

McCreary received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University in 2005 then earned his master's in Coaching and Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2016.
