Malick Kone

Malick Kone is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Hornets, joining the program in Oct. 2023.

Before Delaware State, Kone was the varsity boy'sĀ assistant coach from 2022-23 at John BaptistĀ Memorial High School.

After meeting his wife and moving to Maine, he became the junior varsity boy’s head coach for John BaptistĀ Memorial High School from 2019-22.

He served as the varsity girl's assistant coach atĀ Plainfield High School in New Jersey from 2016-17.

Kone served as an assistant coach at Brookdale Community College in New Jersey from 2015-16. That year, they won the conference championships and qualified for a trip to the national tournament in 2016.

Born in Conakry, Guinea in West Africa, Kone graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and a minor in Labor Studies in 2015. At Rutgers from 2011-15, he played in three conferences in four years. Two years in the Big East Conference, one year in the American Conference, and one year in the Big Ten Conference.

After Rutgers, Kone played for the Guinea senior national team in 2017 in Tunisia and in 2019 for SLAC in Morocco. His basketball career ended in 2019 due to a knee injury.

Kone is a certified FIBA licensed coach. He has been serving as an assistant coach for the Guinea senior men's national team for the past three years, as well as for the U.S. Virgin Islands senior men's national team for the past 1.5 years. Kone is responsible for recruiting players nationally and internationally.
