Jimmy Howard

Howard joined the Delaware State staff this past summer after serving seven seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.

Prior to his tenure at George Mason, Howard was an assistant coach at the University of Maryland during the 1999-2000 season. The previous year, he served as Maryland’s Director of Women’s Basketball Operations.

During the 1997-98 campaign, Howard was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Georgetown University.

From 1989 to ’97, he was head women’s coach at nearby Wesley College. During the 1992-93 campaign, he led the Wolves to a school-best 22-1 overall record. Wesley was fourth among all NCAA Division III schools in scoring defense (52.0 ppg) and rebounding margin (+13.0) that season. His 1993-94 squad held Old Westbury to nine points, the fewest allowed in a NCAA game (all divisions) that season.

Howard also served as a Wesley women’s and men’s assistant from 1989 to ’91, and an assistant at Greensboro College for two years (1987-89).

The Washington, DC native played two seasons at Wesley College before transferring to Greensboro College. He helped lead Greensboro to back-to-back NCAA Division III South Region championships.

Howard, 44, earned a bachelor’s in Retail Marketing and Business Administration from Greensboro College in 1986.
