Bolton
is in his seventh season as the top assistant to Delaware State head coach Ed
Davis. In addition to his player
development and game responsibilities, Bolton also serves as the Lady Hornets'
recruiting and scheduling coordinator.
He has
been instrumental in developing five MEAC All-Conference players and three
All-Tournament players.
In
addition to his player development and game responsibilities, Bolton also
serves as the Lady Hornets' recruiting and scheduling coordinator. He played a
key role in guiding the Lady Hornets' to the 2007 MEAC Tournament championship
and NCAA Tournament appearance. That season, DSU posted a 14-2 record in the
second half of the season to capture the first conference championship in team
history.
During
the 2005-06 season, Bolton's first at Delaware State, the team advanced to the
MEAC Tournament championship game.
Prior to
joining the DSU staff, he was an assistant coach at MEAC rival Howard
University in Washington, DC for five years.
While there, he was instrumental in developing six MEAC All-Conference
players and four All-Tournament players.
During
his tenure at Howard, Bolton helped lead the Lady Bison to the MEAC regular
season and tournament championships during the 2000-01 season. Howard
represented the league in the NCAA Tournament that season. The following year,
Howard captured its second consecutive MEAC regular season crown.
While at
Howard, Bolton was instrumental in the development of MEAC Player-of-the-Year
Andrea Gardner, whom the Utah Starzz selected with the 27th pick in
the 2002 WNBA draft.
Before
his years at Howard, Bolton was an assistant coach for Hampton Roads Pro-Am in
Virginia during the 2000-01 season. From 1993 to '97, he was Summer Camp
Commissioner at Christopher Newport University (Va.). In addition to coaching,
his duties included marketing and advertising for the summer basketball
programs.
Bolton
was a four-year basketball letterman at Christopher Newport. He averaged 14.9
points, 9.6 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 steals as a senior. That season, he
led the Captains to a 24-6 overall record and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA
Division III Tournament.
Following
his collegiate career, Bolton competed in professional leagues in Sweden, Spain
and Turkey from 1997 to 2000.
He
earned a bachelor's in Business Administration (concentration in Business
Management) from Christopher Newport University in 1997. In February 2009,
Bolton was inducted into the Christopher Newport Athletics Hall-of-Fame.
Bolton
is currently a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA,
2000), Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA, 2001) and National Association
for Athletics Compliance (NAAC, 2006).
He
volunteers his time with the Golden Child Award, a non-profit basketball
tournament and as a motivational speaker at summer camps.
