2021 Preseason All-MEAC First Team
Spring ’21: Starting guard  in all five DSU spring contests … returns for fall 2021 season despite being drafted by the   Ottawa RedBlacks in the sixth round of the 2021 Canadian Football League draft  … earned high marks in the Hornets’ 359-yard offensive output (247 rushing / 112 passing) vs. So. Carolina State (Apr. 17) … helped pave the way to a team season-high 390 total yards (217 rushing / 173 passing ) in 37-28 victory at Howard (Apr. 3) … freshman Sy’veon Wilkerson rushed for DSU spring-high 112 yards and one touchdown in Howard contest


2019: Appeared in every game… Helped the offense rank fourth in the MEAC with 1689 yards… including nine games with 100 or more yards rushing… 100 or more yards in seven straight games to end the season… The offense scored a season high six touchdowns, along with a season high 418 total yards vs. Lincoln (Sep. 14)… Two games with the offense gaining over 200 yards on the ground, including a season high 249 rushing yards vs. Norfolk State (Nov. 16).

2018: Key member of offensive line that helped pave the way to a No. 2 MEAC ranking in rushing offense for the Hornets at 187.9 yards per game in 2018 (2067 yards total) … MEAC All-Academic honoree

2017:  Gained valuable experience on the offensive line as a true freshman … played key in Hornets’ 33-30 win over Morgan State (Nov. 11), helping pave the way to 413 total yards, including season-high 179 yards rushing                                      

High School: Two-time varsity letterwinner at Salisbury School … helped lead team to conference championship during junior season and selected as Coach’s Award recipient as a senior … also attended Assumption College School.

Club/AAU: Competed four seasons for Brantford Bison club team … two-time Offensive Line MVP.

Personal: Son of Robert and Terry Derks … has two sisters and one brother … born Jan. 24, 1998 in Brantford, Ontario.
