Devan Hill

Devan Hill is in his first year on the Delaware State University coaching staff, appointed by head coach Lee Hull in Feb. 2023.

Hill most recently served as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Bluffton University (OH) of the NCAA Div. III Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. In his first year, Hill mentored Second Team All-HCAC safety Doniven Clark. Clark led the conference while being ranked #3 in Division III football for interceptions. He also directed Brian Coleman and Stephan Kosakowski, who were both All-HCAC.
 

While at Division III Catholic University, Hill mentored All-Conference safety Luke Kerns, who was ranked #2 in the nation in forced fumbles and #20 in solo tackles. Catholic defensive backs had 15 interceptions in 2017.
 

Hill served as the defensive coordinator at Division II Chowan University and led a defense that was ranked #24 in the nation, as well as a defensive backfield that ranked #6 in the nation with 19 interceptions in 2015. He mentored Vicente Stafford of the BC Lions and David Fulton from the NFL's Green Bay Packers.
 

Hill spent 10 seasons at the Division I level, working at Hampton University as a recruiting coordinator, secondary, and linebackers coach. He has coached 18 All-Conference defensive backs and linebackers. Nine defensive backs from his Hampton teams have gone on to play in the NFL. The Pirates' defensive unit finished in the top 5 in the nation (FCS) in pass defense and interceptions from 2003-06 and 2010. He was an integral part of three conference championship teams and two SBN championship teams.
 

Hill made his coaching debut at Bethel High School in 2000 as defensive backs coach. From 2001-02, he went to Menchville High School in Newport News, Va. as a defensive coordinator. He was a four-year letterman and state champion at Bethel High School in Hampton, Va. (1990-94). A four-year letterman and a two-year starter at cornerback for Joe Taylor and the Pirates, Hill was a member of a Hampton squad that claimed back-to-back MEAC championships in 1997 and 1998. He is a 2000 graduate of Hampton, earning his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management.
 

In the summer of 2012, Hill worked with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an intern. He was responsible for assisting the defensive backs, special teams, and quality control.
