Hornets Never Trail in 3-1 Victory Over UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, MD --The Delaware State Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 3-1 victory against the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks on Sunday.

Rhyannon Stanley (6-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Delaware State (25-16, 14-6). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on seven hits, allowing one walk, and striking out three.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Delaware State got on the board thanks to Brylin McCray's RBI double with two outs.

The Hawks failed to push any runs across before the Hornets built on their lead in the seventh inning. Delaware State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Angie Ordonez's single, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Hornets. Maryland-Eastern Shore put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still held on for the 3-1 win.
