Hornets Cage Hawks in First Day Series Sweep vs UMES

GAME 1 | Delaware State 11, Maryland-Eastern Shore 0
 

PRINCESS ANNE, MD --Kristin White was dealing on Saturday, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Delaware State Hornets over the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks 11-0.

White went the distance for Delaware State (24-16, 13-6), giving up two hits, walking two, and striking out six.

At the plate, the Hornets were led by Mi'Shon King, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Annalisse Santana compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI's. Karly Cain also contributed for Delaware State, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Delaware State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Mianna Lopez Del Haro.

The Hornets then tacked on runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored five times. The big hits in that inning were a two-run double off the bat of Santana and a two-run single from Jaylyn Slater.

PRINCESS ANNE, MD --The Delaware State Hornets took a 2-1 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 4-3 win against the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks on Saturday.

Offensively, the Hornets were led by Angie Ordonez, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI's. Mi'Shon King put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Destiny Mitchell also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Hornets then held the Hawks scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. Delaware State scored twice on Ordonez's two-run homer, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Hornets. Maryland-Eastern Shore put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still held on for the 4-3 win.
 

GAME NOTES

» Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed two runs across.
» The Hornets had control of the rest of the game after jumping ahead of the Hawks 2-1 in the top of the second.
