White's 8-Strikeout Performance Pushes Hornets 5-1 Past SC State

Kristin White was dominant on Sunday, striking out eight South Carolina State hitters over seven innings of work to help power the Delaware State Hornets over the Bulldogs 5-1.

In addition to her eight strikeouts, White (7-7) went seven innings, giving up one run on eight hits and walking one for Delaware State (23-16).

Offensively, the Hornets were led by Destiny Mitchell, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Mianna Lopez Del Haro put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Delaware State got an RBI single from Lopez Del Haro, scoring Mitchell from third base.

The Bulldogs then tied the ballgame at one before the Hornets came back to reclaim their advantage in the fifth inning. The Delaware State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run ground out off the bat of Karly Cain, which brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Hornets. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Delaware State coasted to the win.
