Hornets Come Up Empty on Day Two of Bulldog Invitational

Game 1 vs. Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, MS --Sophomore Kaylanie Rodriquez went 1 for 1 with an RBI for the Delaware State Hornets in a 19-1 loss to the No. 14 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday.

Sophomore Allyson Fonollosa (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (3-5).

Offensively, the Hornets were paced by Rodriquez, who went 1-for-1 on the day with an RBI. Sophomore Mi'Shon King put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 19-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State got an RBI single from Rodriquez, scoring King from third base. The ballgame ended with that fifth inning rally falling short.
 

GAME NOTES

» Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed one run across.
» Delaware State pitchers faced 35 Mississippi State hitters in the game, allowing two ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out one.

Game 2 vs. Samford

STARKVILLE, MS --Senior Mianna Lopez Del Haro went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Delaware State Hornets in a 10-2 loss to the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday.

Junior Kristin White (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (3-6).
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 7-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Delaware State plated two runs when Lopez left the yard with senior Chandler Martin aboard. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Samford added three runs to their tally on the way to a 10-2 final.
 

GAME NOTES

» Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Delaware State pitchers faced 41 Samford hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out seven.
» Lopez Del Haro led the Hornets at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
