Hornets Come Out 0-2 in Day One of Bulldog Invitational

Game 1 vs. Belmont

STARKVILLE, MS --The Delaware State Hornets struggled on Friday, falling to the Belmont Bruins by final score of 14-1.

Junior Kristin White (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (3-3).

In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by senior Angie Ordonez, who went 1-for-2 on the day with an RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 14-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Delaware State got an RBI single from Angie Ordonez, scoring freshman Yeannelly Sosa from third base. The ballgame ended with that fifth inning rally falling short.
 

GAME NOTES

» Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed one run across.
» Delaware State pitchers faced 30 Belmont hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and five fly balls while striking out three.
» Angie Ordonez led the Hornets at the plate, going 1 for 2 with an RBI.
 

Game 2 vs. Samford

STARKVILLE, MS --The Delaware State Hornets were not able to record a run against Samford on Friday and were shut out 1-0 by the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Kaylanie Rodriquez (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (3-4). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing five walks and striking out one.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Delaware State managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Hornets last got a runner on third in the fourth, when freshman Yeannelly Sosa made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
 

GAME NOTES

» Delaware State pitchers limited Samford to just 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
» Delaware State pitchers faced 26 Samford hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out one.
» Senior Mianna Lopez Del Haro led the Hornets at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a double.
