DOVER, DE --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 24-point performance from the bench, but fell 68-51 to the Howard Bison at home Thursday.
Amya Scott led the Hornets (4-20, 1-8) with 16 points and two steals. Jermesha Frierson also tacked on nine points and three steals and Liliana Harrison helped out with nine points and four assists.
The Delaware State defense caused its share of mistakes in Thursday's game, forcing 13 Howard turnovers. Those takeaways turned into six points on the other end of the floor. Frierson's three steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
After falling behind 16-11, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 10 seconds left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Nevaeh Reaves, to take a 17-16 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Delaware State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.
Howard rallied to take a 31-21 lead before Delaware State went on a 6-0 run starting at the 3:49 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Reaves, to narrow its deficit to 31-27. Howard responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Hornets trailing 34-29 heading into halftime.
Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 51-41 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
Delaware State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 68-51. Delaware State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 10 points in the paint.
