DAVIDSON, NC --The Delaware State volleyball team could not beat a dynamic Wildcats offense Saturday falling to Davidson in straight sets (16-25, 22-25, 23-25).
The non-conference loss dropped Delaware State to 3-2 on the season.
Aaliyah Mitchell finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .292. got nine digs from Emma Patmon to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-16. Delaware State trailed by as many as nine points as Davidson grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was notted up two times before the Wildcats took control.
SET 2 | Delaware State then lost the second set 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Davidson grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21 in a set that was tied up five times before the Wildcats took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Davidson finished the sweep with a third-set victory. The Hornets fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured three lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team had a lead of more than three points along the way.
Game Two vs. Elon
Aaliyah Mitchell and Gerren Tomlin both recorded double-doubles, but the Delaware State volleyball team fell to the Elon Phoenix 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 28-30, 23-25) Saturday at John M Belk Arena.

The Hornets were led by the double-doubles from Mitchell, who had 14 kills and 12 digs, and Tomlin, who had 18 kills and 14 digs. Emma Patmon added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Landyn Langham chipped in for with 14 digs to go with four blocks from Mitchell.

SET 3 | A set-three loss put Delaware State down 2-1. The Hornets fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 30-28 in a set that featured six lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Delaware State lost set four and the match, falling 25-23. Elon grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 and Delaware State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up nine times before the Phoenix took over in the second half of the stanza.
