BALTIMORE, MD --Robert Smith scored 34 points, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the Morgan State Bears 87-81 on the road Monday.

Smith added four steals to his 34 point game to lead the Hornets (15-13, 7-6). Muneer Newton helped out with a double double of 15 points and 12 rebounds and Kaseem Watson chipped in with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Delaware State grabbed 48 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Morgan State's 37, led by Newton's 12 boards. The Hornets also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 23 rebounds into 22 second chance points.

How It Happened

Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-27 heading into halftime.

Morgan State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 74-58 advantage before Delaware State went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 74-65 with 2:48 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept their comeback going, but Morgan State managed to hold on for the 87-81 win. Delaware State got out on the break in the period, scoring 18 fast break points.
