PISCATAWAY, NJ --The Delaware State men's basketball team held Rutgers to just 29.8 percent shooting from the field, but fell 65-50 to the Scarlet Knights on the road Monday.
The Hornets (5-10) had two players score in double figures, led by Miles Webb, who had 16 points and eight rebounds. Ponce James tacked on 12 points and two steals and Corey Perkins added nine points and three steals.
The Delaware State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Monday's game, forcing 17 Rutgers turnovers while committing 15. Those takeaways turned into seven points on the offensive end of the floor. Perkins' three steals led the way individually for the Hornets.
How It Happened
After falling behind 3-0, Delaware State went on a 5-0 run with 18:48 left in the first half, culminating in a three from James, to take a 5-3 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 31-24.
Delaware State could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 65-50. Delaware State got out on the break in the period, scoring six fast break points.
