GAME 1 | Maryland-Eastern Shore 7, Delaware State 3
SALISBURY, Md. --Sophomore C. Martin went 2-for-2 with a double for the Delaware State Hornets in a 7-3 loss to the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks on Saturday.
Senior M. Mclntosh (4-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (13-27, 4-15).
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the third inning. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Maryland-Eastern Shore scored five times over the remaining four innings to grab the 7-3 win. Maryland-Eastern Shore was led offensively by junior N. Mountain, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Senior A. Ballenger led the Hawks pitching staff, throwing five shutout innings.
GAME 2 | Delaware State 9, Maryland-Eastern Shore 7
SALISBURY, Md --The Delaware State Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 9-7 win over the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks on Saturday.
McKenzie Yurcaba (1-4) got the win for Delaware State (14-27, 5-15). The right-hander went four innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Mayanah Mclntosh also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking none and striking out one.
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Kayla  Lester's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Delaware State.
The Hawks then tied the ballgame at two before the Hornets came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning. The Delaware State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of U. Lopez, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Hornets.
Maryland-Eastern Shore narrowed Delaware State's lead to 8-5 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 9-5 in the sixth inning. Maryland-Eastern Shore put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still held on for the 9-7 win. Maryland-Eastern Shore was led offensively by A. Ballenger, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. K. Lehman led the Hawks pitching staff, throwing seven innings of nine-run ball.
