SALISBURY, Md. -- Uxua Modrego Lopez recorded two extra base hits, but the Delaware State Hornets fell to the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks 4-1 Sunday.
McKenzie Yurcaba (3-13) got the ball to start for Delaware State (14-28, 5-16) and took the loss. Mayanah Mclntosh was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 5.2 innings, giving up two runs, all earned, on four hits, with two walks and one strikeout.
Lopez's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles.
Trailing 4-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Felicity Munoz came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame. Maryland-Eastern Shore was led offensively by K. Ekstrom, who went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. A. Ballenger led the Hawks pitching staff, throwing seven innings of one-run ball.
