DOVER --The Delaware State Hornets got a boost from sophomore Laila Hasan, who collected three hits in an 11-5 loss to the Saint Peter's Peacocks Sunday.
Senior M. Mclntosh (0-0) took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (3-3).
In addition to her three hits, Hasan had a double to lead the Hornets. Sophomore Emma Crowe furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Senior Uxua Modrego also contributed for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Crowe.
The Peacocks then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 4-3 until the Hornets expanded their advantage in the second. Delaware State pushed across a run on Modrego's one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Hornets. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Saint Peter's scored eight times over the remaining five innings to grab the 11-5 win. Crowe led the Hornets at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Saint Peter's was led offensively by junior Dakota Pitts, who went 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Kristen Bren led the Peacocks pitching staff, throwing seven innings of five-run ball.
