GAME 2 | Niagara 13, Delaware State 3 --The Delaware State Hornets had a tough showing on Friday, falling to the Niagara Purple Eagles 13-3 despite the efforts of Chris Amparo, who went 2-for-4 with a double.
Michael Lane (0-0) started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (1-6). Brooks Kendall was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.
Offensively, the Hornets were paced by Amparo, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double. Cameron Coco compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 13-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Delaware State scored twice, with one run coming across on Coco's single.
The Hornets kept the deficit at 13-2 before closing the gap further in the seventh. Jaryn Sample came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which tightened the Purple Eagles lead to 13-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame. Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed two runs across. Niagara was led offensively by Mauro, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Wheaton led the Purple Eagles pitching staff, throwing two shutout innings.
