DOVER, DE --Deywilk Tavarez scored 21 points, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the Howard Bison 75-71 at home Monday.

The Hornets (10-13, 3-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Tavarez, who had 21 points. Jevin Muniz tacked on 19 points and four assists and Martaz Robinson chipped in as well with 10 points and two steals.

The Delaware State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Monday's game, forcing 13 Howard turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into nine points on the other end of the floor. Robinson's two steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened

After falling behind 28-22, Delaware State went on a 5-0 run with 2:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Wesley Oba, to narrow its deficit to 28-27. Howard answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 32-28 entering halftime.

Howard kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 64-57 advantage before Delaware State went on an 8-0 run to seize a 65-64 lead with 2:50 to go in the contest. Howard re-asserted control, outscoring the Hornets 11-6 the rest of the way to hand Delaware State the 75-71 loss. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 43 points in the lane. The Delaware State defense forced 13 turnovers.

The Hornets return to action Saturday, February 17 when they travel to Coppin State University in continued MEAC Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
